Blue Mountain Resort at The Blue Mountains, Ontario, Canada

Updated: Aug 24, 2021

"We don't stop playing because we grow old... we grow old because we stop playing." George Bernard Shaw

When I was little, while playing with my sisters, brother, and cousins at family gatherings, I would often pause and watch the adults, who were sitting and talking. Incredulously, I wondered why they just sat there. Could they not remember how much fun it was to play kick the can, hide and seek, soccer, baseball, or build a fort? I was having a blast, and the fun I was having was no comparison to, what appeared to me, their boring conversation. I solemnly hoped that when I grew older, I would always play.

Located in Southern Ontario, Canada, situated on the Niagara Escarpment, overlooking the Georgian Bay, Blue Mountain Resort is beautiful year-round.

While researching activities, I was easily confused as there are two websites: https://bluemountainvillage.ca and www.bluemountain.ca. Even though Blue Mountain Resort and The Blue Mountain Village are two separate identities, they are interconnected. The Blue Mountain Village website will list accommodations and activities that Blue Mountain Resort offers, and links you to the Blue Mountain Resort website to book your tickets or accommodations. Additionally, The Blue Mountain Village website will list other activities, accommodations (even private ones), and special events occurring at the village. So, it's worth taking a look at both websites.

Day 1

Woodview Mountaintop Skating - https://www.bluemountain.ca/things-to-do/activities/woodview-mountaintop-skating (Information and tickets)

We arrived for a weekend of winter fun and spent the evening skating a 1.1 km loop through the woods, at the top of Blue Mountain (we could see skiers through the trees). As there are an assortment of decorative lights brightening the paths this is much more appreciated in the evening when it's dark.

Day 2

A full day of skiing.

Skiing the escarpment was a lot of fun. Southern Cross, a picturesque green run that travels along a narrow, wooded path, with a steep drop on the right hand side, was my favorite. But if you like the black diamond runs, you will want to head over to the other side.
